It started when I read about the riot at one of the Italian football match when a police officer accidentally shot and killed a Lazio fan while trying to contain a clash with Juventus supporters in Tuscany. A few hours after that, hundreds of enraged fans rioted in Rome. They attacked the police station, throwing stone at passing police cars, smashed windows at the nearby Italian Olympic Committee headquarters. They even set fire to the police vehicle. For further news about that you can read it on Yahoo! Sports
Anyway, back to my story...after reading further down the article, I've realize that there's more events like that, and it's even worse than that. What makes me pay more attention to it because it involved the team that I support,Liverpool.
So I've searched on two of the events that involved Liverpool. The first one is the Heysel Disaster. It took place on the May 29, 1985 at Heysel Stadium in Belgium. It's the final of the European Cup between Liverpool and Juventus. But an hour before the kick off, 39 football fans died after a wall at the stadium collapsed after both supporters attacked each other. Chaos took over as other supporters fled to escape only to find it was block by a wall and it collapsed on them. It's truly a match nobody wants to remember especially for the Italian fans as 38 of the 39 victim was the Italian fans.

Heysel 1985The other one is the Hillsborough Disaster 1989. It's the semifinal of the FA Cup between Liverpool and Nottingham Forest at the Sheffield Wednesday's Stadium on April 15, 1989. 96 Liverpool fan died due to overcrowded fans. I can't really described the story because it's just too horible to describe. If you want to know the full story you can search on the internet, just type "Hillsborough 1989". Honestly, I was trying my best not to cry from reading the article (well because I was reading about it in the library, there's no way I would let people see me cry)
Hillsborough 1989Anyway, you see how the two articles affected me? It makes me wonder how come a beautiful game like football can become so deadly. Football is what unites us all together, no matter who you are, male or female, what age you are or what is your skin colour. So please people all around the world, please presevered the glory of the game. Don't polute it with this kind of behaviour.
So, today's posting is quite a sad one. Let's just pray that to all those who lost their life be rested in peace. And to their family, my condolences for them even though it's kind of late. But, it's the thought that counts, right? Better late than never =)
